Re: the judicial jailbreak - You're right that it's an extreme option. On the other hand, the state hasn't been in a hurry to fix the problem and still is trying to do so on the cheap. Having practiced criminal defense in three different jurisdictions at various times in my career, Oregon is by far the one during the worst. The Sixth Amendment Center wasn't wrong to call it unconstitutionally deficient. A sensible solution would be additional reinvestment in appointed counsel, investment in a career development track for defense counsel, and the state taking over paying for deputy DAs as well (a longstanding and fair criticism by the counties). It'll take money, but, frankly, not all that much of it in the big picture of the state budget. Want an easy revenue source? Bump up the marijuana taxes. They're still very low.

I understanding you want all listeners and I think you will get them. But the minute you mention Donald Trump or Republican you have lost the far left. I know too many people that won't even listen to someone else's opinion if they even say one positive thing about Trump. If you're looking for more subjects for debate check out PDXReal on X

They truly don't care about the REAL victim. They have reversed the roles to be able to label the criminal as the victim. They make outrageous excuse for the criminals behavior from how they were raised to what drugs they take to their mental state of mind. Oregon is not going to survive this woke ideology. 😫😪 The new trend is if you wish to get your way you PLAY the victim in every circumstance. And if you are a criminal you have more to PLAY with.
